Why didn't Nicola and Jacopo tell their plans to the narrator?

NICOLA AND JACOPO DID NOT WANTED ANYONE TO FEEL PITY FOR THEM ,THEY WERE DIGNIFIED AND HAVE SELF RESPECT WHICH DID NOT ALLOW THEM TO ASK FOR CHARITY FROM ANYONE.THEY WERE SELF DEPENDENT AND WERE ABLE TO TAKE CARE  OF THEMSELVES AND THEIR SISTER THAT'S WHY THEY DIDN'T TELL THEIR PLANS TO ANYONE

Because they did not want anyone to show pity on them and always wanted it to be a secret. That’s why when the narrator asks for the other plans, they say just plans.
