diffusion is maximum in the gaseous state of a substance because of the greater inter molecular space.

‘Gas’ is one of the state of matter in which the particles have tendency to show the random motion in the container they filled. This is because of their “high kinetic energy” that increases the intermolecular distance between particles and decreases the intermolecular force of attraction.

Due to “high kinetic energy” and “tendency” to show the random motion, the gaseous state of substance can easily diffuse whereas this property is negligible in solid and lesser in liquid state.
