\impliesThe ethnic composition of Sri lanka was there were 74% of Sinhalas and 18% of Tamils that included 5% of Indian tamils and 13% of Sri lankan tamils. And 7% were christians. There were hindus and muslims too.

\impliesHere we can see that the majority is of Sinhala speakers while Sri lankan tamils were in minority

\impliesSo there was a Majoritanism rule in Sri lanka. The majority Sinhalas wanted their language to be the offical language of Sri lanka, disregarding tamils. Special positions in universities and job oppotunities were given to sinhalas.

\impliesThus Sri lankan tamils feels eliminated from their own country. They felt that this majority rule will not give them equal rights on their culture, tradition and language.

\impliesSo the Sri lankan tamils also fought for their welfare and to achieve equal rights.

\impliesThats why a distrust was created between the two communities of Sri lanka. Which results into a civil war, in which thousands were killed from both the sides.
