DNS servers don’t read URLs. They don’t receive URLs at all.
The web browser reads the URL. As part of that, it finds the portion of the URL that has the server name, and makes a DNS request for the address corresponding to that server name. It then attempts to make contact with that address, and, if contact is successful, uses the URL in making an HTTP request.
