Why do a baby be alive when delibered after 7 months but, will die when coms to delivary after 8 months?

Children born in the eight month of pregnancy survive at almost the same rate as full term children. Survival for children in the seventh month of pregnancy is very good also, but not quite as good as children born in the eight month. Before modern medicine, it was the same. The death rate at every age was higher in each age group.

I have read the idea of the “7 month” baby doing better than the “8 month” baby was a deliberate lie that wives told the seafaring husbands. They wanted their husband to believe that he was in town at the time that the baby was conceived.
