Why do alkenes undergo electrophilic addition reactions while arenes prefer electrophile?

Arene are aromatic and a lot more stable than alkenes, when anything is added on the double bond of arene it loses stability. Such a thing does not happen in alkenes , so arenes prefer electrophilic substitution than addition.
