"The merchant of Venice " by william shakespeare is one of the best drama till date.

The drama deals with four main characters - Portia, Bassanio, Antonio and Shylock.

Antonio is a merchant of venice and Bassanio is his best friend. The strong bond between them is seen when Bassanio needs money so that he is presented as a wealthy suitor infront of Portia for which Antonio says that currently he is no having money but advises Bassanio to ask money on his (Antonio's) credit for which Bassanio meets Shylock, a jew and Shylocks agrees on giving the sum of three thousand ducates asked by Bassanio on Antonio's credit. As we all know Shylock hates the Christians specially Antonio who had spat on him and called him a cut -throat dog, he(shylock) asks Antonio to sign a bond which stated that if he is unable to pay the debt in given time than a pound of flesh would be taken from Antonio's body according to Shylock's wish.
