why do all the elements of the same group have similar properties same period have different properties

Same group elements have same no of valence electrons. As valence electrons determine the compound formation of the element the have similar(not identical) chemical properties

Whereas along a period nothing that determines chemical properties is same

➠➠It is the Valence electrons which play a main role in properties of element.

➠➠Elements in same group has same no of valence electrons....So they have same properties.But Elements in period don't have same no of valence electrons...So they don't have similar properties.
