The rate of breathing in aquatic organisms is much faster than in terrestrial organisms because the amount of dissolved oxygen is fairly lower in water than air and also that aquatic organisms like the fishes obtain oxygen from water present in the dissolved state.

Aquatic animals breathe faster than terrestrial animals because animals underwater are always moving. They are always swimming or walking on the ocean floor. The faster they swim, the faster they breathe. Terresrtial animals can rest and catch they 're breath if they need to.
