The amount of oxygen in the air is more than that of water. The oxygen concentration in the air is about 21% higher than that of water. Due to the low amount of oxygen in the water, aquatic animals have to breathe quickly to maintain their respiratory process. Due to this, the breathing rate of aquatic animals is faster than terrestrial animals.
