aquatic animals breathe faster than terrestrial animals because their energy requirement is higher as aquatic animals have to swim in water which requires more energy.

Aquatic animals takes dissolved oxygen in water. The amount of oxygen dissolved in water is low compared to the amount of oxygen in the air. Therefore, aquatic animals breathes faster than terrestrial animals.
