It is because arteries carries the blood from heart to all other parts of the body.While pumping, the blood travels fast and thin walls can brust.
That is why arteries are thick elastic and muscular walls so that they cannot brust.

Arteries carry oxygenated blood from the heart to the different body parts. Blood emerges from the heart under high pressure. In order to withstand this pressure, arteries have thick and elastic walls.
