Why do astronauts walking in space need to wear special pressure suits? Atmospheric pressure is about 100000Pa, although it changes slightly from dayto day. That is like having a mass of one kilogram resting in every square centimeterof your skin. How is it that our bodies are not crushed by the enormous weight ofthe atmosphere? You dont notice the pressure because the fluids inside your bodyare at a similar pressure.Particles in the atmosphere aremoving in all directions. Thepressure on you is equal in alldirections.

The pressure is caused due to atmosphere of the earth. Our body is habituated to earth's pressure and applying an equal pressure outside. That is why we don't feel it. But when we go to some other planet or in outer space, the composition of the atmosphere changes. So we need to wear special suits that can adjust the pressure accordingly.
