why do cats and dogs always reproduce several young ones?

They are lower in the food chain  so their survival rate is low . Hence they produce the more babies to reach at least 3-4 to the adulthood . Biologically they infuse more eggs with sperms hence  production is more whereas in human only one sperm  infuse with egg .sometime 2 or 3 in millions for twins .

Cats and dogs release several eggs simultaneously and these are fertilised by individual sperms. Thus, these mammals reproduce several young ones from a single pregnancy. The other factor for giving birth to several kittens or puppies is one of survival, as all of them may not live till adulthood.
