The coastal areas experience the cool, wet air from the sea throughout the year which modifies the weather along the coast to have uniform weather both in the winter and summer. This condition is said to be equable climate. It is otherwise called as Maritime climate.

The great fields of the coastal lowlands in India enjoy the equable atmosphere may be connected to great water bodies like the  Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. These water bodies surround the Indian peninsula on all three surfaces which appears in the moderate influence of land and sea wind. Therefore, the waterfront cities experience equable weather throughout the year, while areas in the interior encounter intense weather.
