Why do compounds have high melting point than their constituent elements??

As a compound is formed, there is a sharing of electrons between the fellow elements which results in formation of 'Covalent Bonds'. Covalent Bonds are known to be the ztrongest bonds after ionic bonds and thus are very difficult to break! Thus, their melting points are very high...
