deciduous trees or plants shed their leaves to conserve water or to survive better in winter season, they must grow back their leaves by the next suitable growing season

Deciduous tress usually shed their leaves in the dry season to avoid transpiration as there will be excessive loss of water during the process...
Basically they shed to conserve water...
