Why do deer and zebra have eyes facing sideways?

Answer:

Animals with side-eyes are often prey species, and need to see all around them at all times (they may not see the predator in time if they have to move their bodies.) Side eyes enable a visual field of almost 360°, except where the body gets in the way.
