The output of the inverter is not a pure sine wave. Anything electrical which is fed by imperfect sine wave at 50hz fundamental has significant harmonic at 100hz; this is the freq of the sound that is usually heard (kind of humming sound) because our ear picks up 100hz easily compared to 50hz. Also, electrical machines that have magnetic materials inside them produce sound due to magnetic effect called magnetostriction, which I do not know much about.
