Engines require fuel like petrol and diesel because for the ignition and combustion process for their working.

Explanation:

Petrol in petrol engines ignite with the help of spark plug which produces huge amount of heat and energy for the completion of engine cycle and that energy is required to drive the vehicle or other movable machines.

Whereas, diesel in diesel engine combust due to the high pressure and temperature inside the combustion chamber which leads to release of high amount of heat and energy to complete the cycle and running of engine for vehicles, for their motion.

Both engines are used to drive vehicles.
