Why do females have a limited number of eggs whereas males have no. of them?

Females have a limited no. of eggs, whereas males have a large no. of sperms, because the egg is non-motile and doesn't need to reach the sperm in order to get fertilised, while the sperm has to move through the female's internal reproductive structure to reach the egg for fertilisation to occur. Through this journey, not all the sperms are likely to reach the egg, most of them might get wasted. So, it is necessary for the male body to produce a large no. of sperms in order to ensure its reproduction.
