Polythene is a thin, transparent sheet which is used to wrap food and other eatables to keep them safe and fresh.

Rotting occurs when microbes landed on air particles gets in touch with food particles, these microbes landed on food and start rotting. The thin sheet of polythene creates a barrier between air and the food which keeps it protected and fresh for a longer period of time.

Secondly, polythene sheet also hold the odor of food so it does not attract insects to feed on it and spoil it.
