In early days, human settlements had grown over plains and coastal areas just because of the agricultural benefited and trade benefits.

In modern days, human settlements are found to be well grown in cities and town just because of wide range of opportunities.

Whenever we turn the pages of history, we can witness many great migrations and settlements were started in the name of search for some opportunities and land forms in a greater extend. Humans were meant to find opportunities and use them in an appropriate manner. So they migrated and settled over certain places where they got all the opportunities. This might be the reason behind your question why human grow only in specific locations?
