Why are Indians so influenced by the Western culture, when the Indian tradition has so much to give?
Let's ignore the people who imitate blindly. On a broader note, people across the world try to adapt cultural practices of other countries to enrich their lives. Americans eat the Italian made Pizza, Japanese origin Sushi, sip Ethiopian originated coffee, practice Indian origin Yoga & number systems, use Chinese origin gunpowder, speak Indo-European languages, travel in Mesopotamian origin wheel and so on. English people do all this plus have Chinese origin Tea and Indian origin curry as their national foods.
Where does "western culture" end and "Indian culture" start? What would happen if everyone is forced to just follow only those that have been developed within our own borders? All our lives would suck. Humanity succeeds by copying & adapting other's innovations.
In the US corporate world we use terms like guru, avatar, mantra, nirvana, pundit and so on. What are the popular Indian words that are now being used globally? Does it mean Americans are "obsessed" with Sanskrit? No. If something sounds good, people use it and move on. In the same way, many Indians use elements from other parts of the world. That doesn't make them any less Indian. They would become less Indian only if they start seeing their own culture as inferior & shameful. Just practicing American style Yoga doesn't do that.
Again, these connections go all the way back to the beginning of history. Understanding roots in Sanskrit & English. India has always been a great importer/exporter of ideas.
