Iron fillings get stuck to a magnet because iron is attracted towards magnet. When an iron filling finds itself in a magnetic field it becomes magnetised. Then it attracts towards magnet mostly at the poles because magnetic field is so powerful at the poles of magnet.

Answer:

The magnetic field produces loops of magnetlines which can be seen around a magnet when iron filings are sprinkled on and around themagnet. The small iron filings react to the magnetic forces and line themselves up along the magnetic lines. This represents the direction of the magnetic field at any point.

Since iron is a ferromagnetic material, amagnetic field induces each particle tobecome a tiny bar magnet. The south pole of each particle then attracts the north poles of its neighbors, and this process repeated over a wide area creates chains of filings parallel to the direction of the magnetic field.
