Why do liver cells have large numbers of mitochondria?

because liver cells produce bile juice that leads in good digestion of food and better absorption rate as you know mitochondria is also known as powerhouse of the cell then for better absorption cells need energy that's why in there are a large number of mitochondria found in liver cells
