Answer: Living organisms need to respire in order to obtain energy to carry out metabolic activities which are essential for their survival

During respiration , the food which we have eaten is broken down into carbon dioxide , water and energy . This energy is used by our body for carrying out essential functions such as beating of heart , etc and also for growth and development of our body.
