A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moonpasses directly behind Earth and into its shadow. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely aligned (in syzygy), with Earth between the other two. A lunar eclipse can occur only on the night of a full moon.

hii mate,
This is because moon faces the sun during lunar eclipse. So the side of the moon we see is lit up by the sun's light. So moon will be fully visible. This is why lunar eclipse happens at full moon.
