Large amount of homework leads the child to be busy and he/she will be unable to play outside. Also, if there are students who are a bit weak in studies and are late doing their work, then they might have to stay overnight to finish it. It might also lead a child to be sick. Also they would fear that if they will not finish their work on time, then the teacher would scold and punish the child.
