chemical bonds involve metals and non metals to react. The compound made by reaction of metals and non metal is called ion. electrons which donated are positive ions and electrons which gained are negative ions.

eg, Na+Cl=NaCl

sodium gives electron to cl and becomes positive ion whereas chlorine becomes negative by accepting the electron..
