due to these grooves you are being able to apply brakes otherwise the brakes would not be able to work. these grooves also help in moving as you might have seen small hard particle type/sand type thing on the roads which get locked in those grooves and finally you can move easily with speed and by applying brakes. remember to put an helmet on head!
