Answer:

Hmm so you want to know what we think about our brothers and sisters,of course we think much highly of them.

There was a time when I was about 12 years of age when I used to think about that how much the South Indians differ from North Indians,I used to make up things in my mind that they we don't have same languages, they don't like us,so why should I treat them our fellow brothers and sisters.

But slowly this thing got eradicated from my mind, when I got influenced by teachings of some nationalists.Once I used to think that why don't these people speak Hindi (btw I'm a Punjabi),even Punjabis do speak so I used to tag my fellow brothers as 'Anti North Indians'.How foolish I was. I stated this query of mine to my grandfather as well (he was a teacher prior to his retirement and has a keen interest and knowledge in History).

What he said to me blew my mind off. He said suppose there are two brothers of the same parents. One daily goes to temple from a pathway 'A' and the other one goes from the pathway 'B'.Both the ways are identical. He asked me”Is that logical if the first brother forces his second brother to visit the temple from another pathway C just because he doesn't like that way.I said ofcourse Not it's his choice. Then he asked me that why do you want them to speak your language.BTW I had become speecheless at that time.

He further stated that do you know what was the reason of creation of Bangladesh. I said no. He said the Pakistan were trying to impose Urdu over the Bengalis.I was listening to him very quietly. He said “we all Indians are united by the Sanskrit, your Punjabi isn't even 600 years old.” He said what if they want you to leave your mother tongue and impose any South Indian language as our National language.I said even if that happens I will prefer my mother tongue.

That was the X Factor of my change of attitude towards my brothers of South India.

In my 6th class there was a chapter in the History book of our ICSE board”The empires of South India”,it was excluded from our syllabus but I studied it fully. It was about Cholas,Cheras,Pandyas,Hoysalas,Chalukyas.

I know my answer is a bit boring but it would be my pleasure if you would read it completely.

Now please listen what I think:

I used to boast that we North Indians defended our boundries of India from the foreign invaders either the Sikh empire or the Guptas or the Rajputana or the Gurjara Pratiharas. But when my grandfather made me aware of the contributions of the Vijayanagara empire which checked the Islamic conquest of Indian subcontinent for almost 3 centuries, this made me even more proud of my Southern Brothers.

I used to Boast that we had the revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and others who waged a war against British Empire. But when I read about the valour and bravery of Veerapandiya Kattaboman this made me even proud of my brothers
