Living organisms need nutrients because the food we eat that contains nutrients that our body needs to replace worn out cells, to stay healthy & to survive.

When the living organisms die and spoil in the soil, the nutrients in them die up and get disintegrated in it. Accordingly, plant roots can retain supplements, for example, salts, potassium, minerals, starch, etc..
