when u hit the ground ,the ground excerts a force up on you to stop u.the force which it eserts depends on how long the collision lands.you have to control over ur mass or the seed you hit the ground,but u can increase the time and reduce the rate of change in momentum and rolling is one such trich,where u will get less hurt

When paratroopers land on round their speed(or velocity) is high. This means that the momentum would also be high so they might get injured. so they roll on landing so that the time of change of momentum is increased and injuries are minimised.
