why do people hide their true self?

It is just because people want to make others curious about himself and wants to keep their personal identification safely . Like all mobile numbers , address , pin number , bank identification , etc . These r the most important thing that people should handle carefully.

Let us think about the possible reasons due to which we hide our true selves:

1. We often lie because we want to keep a certain part of our life hidden, maybe a troubled past, or maybe a neurosis that embarrasses us; a dark terrible secret which we do not want others to know...sounds quite melodramatic, doesn't it? xD

2. It could be because of security reasons, some people want to protect their identity at all costs. There are many people who feel vulnerable and insecure in letting out their personal information

3. Another reason could be that they are afraid of judgement. As simple as that!! People are afraid of judgement and being misunderstood so they pretend. Afterall, we all want to fit into the society! We will do anything in order to achieve a sense of belonging in the world.

4. Or simply because we feel "insecure" and "embarassed" about our real personality

5. We humans are such vain creatures! We all like to surround ourselves with a shroud of mystery, and so we all like to arrange our surfaces to create an impression which we intend to create; basically we try to make people see that side of our nature which WE want them to see.

Some people go to great lengths to mask their true identity (yes, some often lie or even exaggerate) and pretend to be someone that they're not (most probably to impress someone)

And that is all I can think of as for now...
