In coastal area, there is lot of water and sodium chloride, salt, ionizes present in the coastal area can form rust on the iron objects.

Iron objects in the coastal area can absorb moisture from the air and salt can dissolve the moisture from the iron objects.

Due to this process, you need to put much effort to protect iron objects from rusting.
