Why do people want to hide their mistakes ?

 because we are afraid to face the consequences of our actions. From our childhood we are castigated for being our true self . The fear of public disapproval makes one hide his flaws. This fear is infact what causes compulsive lying tendencies in people (where people lies for no reason at all) .
