why do plants and animals living in water deprive of oxygen?

Air is present in a dissolved state in water. This air is what helps plants and animals underwater respire and survive underwater. Oxygen is replaced in the atmosphere by the plants as they prepare food (photosynthesis). Carbon dioxide is replaced by the animals for the plants to consume.
