Agriculture,

Look rice is a kharif crop and wheat is a rabi crop,

Now, the crops which are planted in the season of July - october (summer) by the south west monsoon are called kharif crops. And rabi crops are planted between october and march (winter).

Now moving to the actual question, why rice needs more water than wheat.

Water and the sediment helps rice plants to maintain the correct temperature required.Rice plants needs to maintain the perfect temperature, humidity which is present generally in summer otherwise it won't be able to survive.
First of all the rice seeds are grown in a small nursery field then in they are grown in a larger paddy field.

An amazing fact about rice is that the worlds two third of the population takes rice as daily basis.

And now wheat,
Wheat is a grain that is a member of the grass family, similarly rice is also.
Wheat needs less water, excessive water causes root infection in wheat and some other rabi crops.
That's why they are planted in the winter season.

One interesting fact about wheat is that it is grown on more land area than any other food crop 220.4 million hectares.

That's it
Hope it helped (^_^メ)
