Why do silver ornaments lose their shine and turn black when kept for sometime?

the silver of the ornaments react with sulfer and hydrogen in air present due to pollution. After series of reaction a coating of silver sulfide is formed on the ornaments which is black in colour. This type of reaction is tarnish reaction.
