it is the process of corrosion... which turns silver black....
silver gets oxidised.. when left exposed to air.....
it actually reacts with sulphur present in air to form
.. hydrogen sulphide forming a black precipitate...

SINCE AIR CONTAINS A MIXTURE OF IMPURITIES..SILVER WHEN EXPOSED TO AIR REACTS WITH SULPHUR FORMING A BLACK LAYER OF SILVER SULPHIDE.
