Why do solutes dissolve in solvents?

because while it gets dissolved it forms respective ions in it that are attracted by solvent

A solution is made when one sbstance called the solute ''dissolves'' into another substance called the solvent. . this breakup is caused by coming into contact with the solvent .In this case of salt water,the water molecules break off salt molecules from the larger crystal lattic.
