Some animals such as frogs lay hundreds of eggs at a time because all of this eggs do not hatch. Some of these gets eaten by small aquatic animals such as fish while some of them cannot resist the change in environment. Therefore it is neccesary to lay hundreds of eggs during external fertilization.

this is because eggs of those animals do not have survival changes as other predator can eat or destroy them up..therefore they lay several eggs which ensures the generation of them.
