Answer:
When India gained independence the leader did not declare India as a federation, rather they declared in as a Union Of state, but because the Indian government tends to follow spirits of federalism it is called as a 'federation with unitary features'
Constitutional provisions:
- Division of power between central, state, local government
- Separate lists for each level of government, that is union, state and concurrent list
- state government is not answerable to the central government but both are answerable to the public separately
- separate judiciary for each level of government.
- Some state in Indian union like the union territories do not have equal power
Explanation:
Since not all the state do not have equal powers it is called a federation with 'unitary features' i.e. it shows displays some aspects of a unitary government s well.
