why do some people say that India is a federation with unitary features? explain with the help of any five constitutional provision​

When India gained independence the leader did not declare India as a federation, rather they declared in as a Union Of state, but because the Indian government tends to follow spirits of federalism it is called as a 'federation with unitary features'

Constitutional provisions:

  1. Division of power between central,state,local government
  2. Separate lists for each level of government, that is union,state and concurrent list
  3. state government is not answerable to the central government but both are answerable to the public separately
  4. separate judiciary for each level of government.
  5. Some state in Indian union like the union territories do not have equal power

Explanation:

Since not all the state do not have equal powers it is called a federation with 'unitary features' i.e. it shows displays some aspects of a unitary government s well.
