Hi friend!!!

Soft drinks glass bottles crack sometimes when kept in the freezers due to the motio of molecules, most substances contract when they are cooled, but water expands as it freezes. The force of expansion is enough to burst most containers, including soda bottles and cans.

HOPE THIS HELPS....

Answer:

Why do glass bottles break in the freezer?

Water is a strange thing. While metals and rock etc. expand when warm and contract when cold (except boron), water expands when it freezes and changes states into ice.

It's a good thing too because if the oceans and lakes ever started to ice over, the ice would sink to the bottom. Soon each layer would be joined by successive layers until the whole thing would be frozen killing all sea creatures.

Back in the days where milk was delivered by a milkman in the western world, most people were familiar with the milk freezing and either pushing the cap off or shattering the glass container.

Therefore never put a glass container holding liquids into a freezer. Plastic containers may allow expansion but they may break as well.

Thanks for the A2A

Water has an amazing property, like other substances it contracts when cooled but only upto 4 degree Celsius after that on further cooling it starts expanding. When it reaches freezing point water expands nearly 9% whereas the cold drink bottles keep on contracting. Due to lack of space for the expanding in volume ice , the bottle breaks.

The glass doesn't break from the cold (unless it was a quick shift in temperature) it breaks from the changes in the content inside. Assuming the glass bottle is full with a liquid ( we'll say water) water expands due to the water molecule forming into a hexagonal configuration as it crystalises and takes up more space. This expansion, couple with an (assumingly) tightly secured lid the, with no room for expansion in the glass it gives way and breaks.

Why does an empty glass bottle break, or crack when kept in a deep refrigerator?

Will glass break if you put it in the freezer?

What will happen to the glass bottle filled with water when it freeze in the freezer? Will the bottle crack?

When a bottle breaks in the freezer, it is usually due to a water-based fluid inside the container froze. Water has the characteristic, unlike must other materials, that it expands during solidification. This is fortunate on lakes, since the ice floats on top, being less dense. However in a rigid bottle it exerts a powerful force when it expands on freezing and it cannot be resisted by glass bottles.

Water filled glass bottles crack in freezer because of the anomalous behaviour of water. Water freezes at 4 degree Celsius and it expands on freezing causing a water-filled glass bottle to crack or even explode.

A simple case of physics. Frozen water (aka ice) colder than -4°C is larger than water in liquid form. Check your ice cube tray as you fill it with water and check the frozen product. It rises a little.

Because volume of water increases as it converts into ice because of decrease in density below 4 degree Celsius. Hence it breaks the bottle

Liquids in glass bottles expand hence the bottle breaks becouse glass doesn't expand to create more room for expansion.
