They could be lack of nutrients, harmful chemicals, radiations, changes in pH , temperature etc. Underunfavourable conditions the bacterial cell gets killed. ... Thus in some genera like Bacillus, Clostridium etc the cellsare able to survive unfavourable conditions by transforming into an endospore.
