Because of refraction of light emitted by stars. Here the medium gets changed when light enters the atmosphere of earth from outer space.

.
- The atmoshpere consists of a number of parallel layers of air of varying densities .
- The most dense layer is near the surface of earth, and least dense later is the top most layer.
- When the rays of light coming from this star pass through atmosphere of varying densities they bend towards the normal.
- Finally when the refracted rays of light reach the eye, the eye tracee straight line path.
- Due to this functions of refractive index of layers, stars appear twinkiling.
