Stars twinkle because of the atmospheric refraction.As the stars are far away from earth they have to travel longer distances and also they are considered as the point source of light...When the stars come more closer to the earth the reflect brighter and when come less closer to the earth they reflect fainter...This phenomenon causes the twinkling effect...
