why do stars twinkle

Stars appear to be twinkling due to refraction of light. As we move up in the atmosphere, the layers of atmosphere are of varying densities therefore the light gets refracted at different angles. When a star falls in our line of sight we are able to see while when it falls out of line of sight we are unable to see it. Therefore it appears twinkling.

The twinkling of star happen due to atmospheric refraction. the star light entering
our eye passes through many layers where refraction takes place. the position of stars is not stasnary it keep moving . thats why stars appear twinkling to us.
