The bodies of terrestrial organisms cannot tolerate the high amounts of dissolved salts present in saline water. So, they need fresh water for life processes like cellular reactions, transportation and excretion processes etc. The atmosphere consists of gases like nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapour.
